FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 29, 2019
Quilts of Valor, an organization whose members produce hand-made patchwork quilts to honor veterans, will present quilts to three Transylvania veterans and seven additional veterans from the region on Saturday, June 1, at 10:30 am at the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas at 21 East Main Street (next to the court house) in Brevard. The public is invited.
Please join us to honor Transylvania residents Tom McCrary (WWII), George Poor (Korean War) and Howard Thiele (Vietnam), along with veterans from Buncombe and Henderson Counties, as they receive appreciation and uniquely-crafted quilts.
Quilts of Valor is a non-profit foundation whose goal is to cover all physically or psychologically wounded servicemembers with a freedom quilt, honoring them for their sacrifices. The movement was originally started by Catherine Roberts of Seaford, Delaware, in 2003 but has now spread across the United States and even has an international presence.
For more information, please call the museum at 828-884-2141 or visit www.theveteransmuseum.org. The museum is open Wednesday – Saturday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Sunday, 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Admission is free.
