The Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas invites you to visit before our last open day in 2019, which is Sunday, December 8. After winter inventory, artifact cleaning, and renewal of displays, the museum will re-open Wednesday, Feb. 5.
2019 has been an active year for the museum. The total visitor count since the its August 2017 opening has been more than 15,000 people; local, regional, and from all over the United States and several foreign countries. The museum serves as both a frequently-visited space for local veterans to spend time with other veterans and an event and exhibit space to honor all service members.
A highlight this year is the special exhibit “Women in the Military”, which will continue through December 8. The exhibit features a display of women’s uniforms, photographs, medals and mementos beginning with WWII, as well as books and magazines from the war years.
- The public is invited to our last two events of the year:Thursday, Dec. 5 at 2:00 pm: “Women in the Military” exhibit concludes with Air Force Pilot Major Molly McCarthy’s program, “Women in Military Aviation.”
- Saturday, Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day: The public is invited to informally meet 10 World War II veterans after their lunch which gives them a private time to get to know each other. The public is invited from 12:30 to 1:00. The new book World War II Veterans of the Carolinas: Their Stories in their Own Words, which contains their stories, will be available for purchase and signing by the veterans ($15.00).
The museum volunteers are honored to be Grand Marshals for Brevard’s Christmas parade. We look forward to seeing you at the parade at 3:00 pm on December 7.
