Our Mission

To Honor, Educate and Preserve our History by Remembering and Honoring our Veterans.

The Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas is currently located next to the historic courthouse of Transylvania County, in Brevard, NC. We are proud of our current museum, but our expanded vision to honor and document the histories of ALL the veterans of the Carolinas requires that we move to an larger facility.
We want to be a center of excellence for honoring veterans. In partnership with the Library of Congress and colleges and universities, we will document their histories and stories to be archived for their families and future generations.
Our Capital Campaign is committed to raising $2,500,000 for this effort and we need your support.

Museum Design

The new Museum will honor United States military veterans – past, present, and future – and will provide a facility to collect, preserve, and make accessible veterans artifacts as well as their histories.  A display of flags will be the centerpiece of the initial access to the facility.

A large glass Rotunda will be the new building’s centerpiece to greet the visitors and showcase the entry. Inset in the rotunda lobby floor will be the Museum’s logo and the Volunteer’s Greeting Desk. The focal point of the Lobby will be the Honor Wall which will display the plaques that veterans and their families have placed there. A kiosk will allow visitors to review the names and details of the honorees plaques.

Leading off the lobby will be a series of dramatic galleries allowing visitors to explore different period of military history starting with WWI and ending with the most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Audio visual displays will enhance the visitor’s experience in viewing thousands of artifacts.

The museum will feature a gift shop and a veterans “ready room” – a gathering place for veteran visitors. Recording studios will be available to record veterans’ stories to be archived in conjunction with the Library of Congress. The theater, educational center and library will be used for youth programs, lectures, and community events.
